Following the Musa Masala Lead Climbing Competition at the Kathmandu Sport Climbing Center (KSCC –  our post on the competition is coming soon!!), Musa Masala and Wongchhu Peak Promotion welcomed all the competitors and anyone from KSCC who wanted to come for a day of rock climbing at Hattiban, a local crag an hour outside of Kathmandu. Wongchhu Peak Promotion rented a bus and we picked most everyone up in front of the Nepali Ghar Hotel. We wrangled more along the way and some came later via scooter.

We wanted to spend a day with the climbers to see how they felt about the competition, their climbing opportunities and indoor and rock climbing in Nepal. We learned so much and made new friends, we enjoyed a lunch provided by Wongchhu Peak Promotion. We want to thank Lakpa Sherpa, Binod Mani, Ang Diku Sherpa, Phula Sherpa, Sangita Rai, Roshan Shrestra and Tenzi Sherpa for putting it all together, what organization!

After climbing and filming interviews we had a short lecture on Leave No Trace Principles by Chandra Ale from Initiative Outdoor

Musa Masala and Wongchhu Peak Promotion are strong supporters of Leave No Trace. Thank you, Chandra and Nishon Thapa, for this special chance to learn and discuss our chance to preserve nature in our outdoor activities.

Thanks to our route setters:

  • Panchamaya Tamang
  • Kismat David
  • Sulav Rai
  • Saugat Gurung

Enjoy the video of the day put together by our friends  Bartola  and Anup Vaswani:

We hope everyone had a good time, we sure did! We plan to have another one after our competition in November, 2024.

Thanks everyone for sharing the day with us, Jam Jam!!

Please note: We recommend wearing a helmet whenever climbing outdoors. We will be fundraising for just that. If you would like to help us fund our climbing competitions, fun rock days and equipment, please donate to Musa Masala here or through our store, Chandra says it best, climbing and outdoor learning is education, it’s important and helps create a better future for young people.
